Verne Troyer AKA 'Mini Me' has died aged 49
Verne Troyer, who played Mini-Me in Austin Powers, has died at 49-year-old. Verne, who was just 2ft 8in tall, also played Griphook in the first Harry Potter film.
A post on his official Facebook page announced his death on Sunday 22nd April. It read:
Quote:It is with great sadness and incredibly heavy hearts to write that Verne passed away today. Over the years he's struggled and won...but unfortunately this time was too much.
Depression and Suicide are very serious issues. You never know what kind of battle someone is going through inside. Be kind to one another. And always know, it’s never too late to reach out to someone for help.
One of Verne's first movie roles was as a stunt double for a nine-month-old baby in the film Baby's Day Out back in the mid 90s, but his big break came when he landed the part of Mini Me in the Austin Powers films, where he played the clone and sidekick of Dr Evil, played by Mike Myers.
Earlier this month, Verne was taken to hospital but there was no mention to what he was suffering from. However, it was well known that he had been battling with alcohol addiction and depression for many years. Last year he released a stamement that read:
Quote:While it's not always been an easy fight, I'm willing to continue my fight day by day.
Celebrity friends took to social media to offer their condolances to Verne's family and friends.
Motley Crue's Tommy Lee also tweeted: "Gonna miss my lil buddy! @VerneTroyer RIP homie the whole world's gonna miss you!"
RIP lil dude.
